Creating a PGN File To Share Your Games

For those of you that want to create a PGN file (Portable Game Notation) so that you have an electronic record that you can view your previous games, or share with someone else, one free program that you can use it Babas Chess.

It is available at:

http://www.babaschess.net/download.asp

Choose the correct version, download and install it.

Babas chess is mainly for the purpose of playing chess on some online chess servers but I use it myself for the PGN file saving capability. To do that you will need to do the following:

1. When you first run the program, you will see a board. Go to EDIT and select START A NEW LOCAL GAME.
2. Click on the OK button and start moving the pieces according to your score sheet. You did learn to record your game didn't you?
3. When done, you can go to EDIT->ANALYZE, accept the defaults and click on OK and Crafty will begin to analyze your game for you
and add some elementary annotations and ideas.
4. Go to FILE->SAVE TO (B)PGN to save your file. Change the name of White and Black to you and your opponent's name.

That's it. Oh, the Crafty analysis is very one dimensional. It will highlight fairly obvious blunders. It has no positional sense whatsoever.
To get a decent analysis, you will still need to go to an expert/master for a real analysis, I use it for blunder detection/confirmation.
