Christmas Blitz 2008 Results

admin — Mon, 02/23/2009 - 11:18

Thanks to everyone that attended and especially those that brought the beverages and cookies .

This was my first time watching a blitz tournament and it was very interesting. Here's my observations:

1. G/5 is very different from the usual G/30 as there are good G/30 players that find G/5 difficult and vice versa.
2. Mistakes happen often so upsets are possible.
3. Mistakes upon mistakes make for some hilarious games.
4. That illegal move lose the game rule can really hurt. Ouch.
5. Great sportsmanship and cooperation by all players - thanks!
6. Most importantly, everyone had fun.
7. Now I know what food really motivates Master Raymond.

The pairings were made with some requests to avoid family members as well as frequent familiars. After all, variety makes things more fun.

The only round that was predictable was round 1 where higher rated players consistently beat the lower rated players as is expected in Swiss tournaments. After that, anything that could happen did happen. Anyway, here are the numbers.

Stephane in deep thought up there.

So, Master Raymond took home the top prize with Mark Smiley and the del Mundos scoring 7 points each for 2nd through 4th place. Here's the wallchart:
